After the trojan attack British bank lost $1m. Malware gang breached bank’s security and compromised accounts maintained with the UK bank.
According to security investigators, malware based on Zeus trojan was used to commit a crime which included a theft of online banking accounts. Researchers at the M86's Security Labs came across the attack after discovering the botnet's command & control centre, which is hosted in Moldova.
Zeus trojan based malware swiped user’s ID while they were surfing on the net and redirected their online banking sessions but only those that contained a big amount of money. M86 says: „It [the malware] checks the account balance and, if the account balance is bigger than £800 value, it issues a money transfer transaction.“
There are still a lot of unanswered questions because a name of targeted bank is unknown and what is already done to prevent this attack or what steps are taken to solve the problem.
