Sunbelt reports that Twitter users have to beware of fake Twitter main pages that have been popping up and trying to convince unwary users to open adult images or download malicious programs.
Cybercriminals use new and fake design of Twitter home page as a legitimate which contains a video under the “Edit” line in a page. The rogue video at the fictitious Twitter main page is meant to be a lure for victims. This Twitter kit allows scammers to make changes in .htm file, for example, to insert a link and then add the rest.
Fortunately, the scammers are also not perfect and left inaccuracies in their new designed Twitter main pages. Users may notice that there is something wrong with these popping up pages when they are asked to download an application.
The Twitter users who already know the whole Twitter system are able to notice that there is something phishy with it, however, the newbie may be not so careful. This is the reason for users to check legitimacy of the Twitter URL. Make sure it is the right one.
