FarmVille players get another scam
By Gina on January 21, 2011 | Phishing, Facebook, online security, FarmVille, rare animal gift, scam on Facebook, fill survey, rogue offer, malicious message on Facebook
It’s not big news that Facebook is the most lovable by scammers. This time they targeted FarmVille players by offering them unusual gift - rare animals, like Icelandic horses, wolf cubs, rare Ptarmigan Willows, Fiordland Penguins.
These offers are popping-up lately on Facebook. It asks users to fill surveys of the supposedly legitimate gift for the popular game. By clicking on the link that is contained in a rogue message users are led into the misleading website that seeks user to install “free FarmVille Game Bar“ and puts a rogue message on their wall as well.
The next move the user is asked to do is to complete their survey for getting rare animal. For the each filled survey scammers get their money. All private information that user put in a survey can be used in further scams.
The worst case scenario is that this tricky scam that offers to download supposedly legitimate game covers malware instead. That is why user usually gets unwanted malware in their systems. In every proposition you get you have to look carefully and check their legitimacy. In this case, go to the official FarmVille and Zynga sites and verify an offer.
