ISPs can also help improve cyber security

Cybercrime is not news nowadays. It’s happening all the time on the Internet and it affects all users that surf in a World Wide Web. One of the most popular tools for distributing malware and commit a cybercrime is botnets. Through them hackers earn lots of money from unwary users.
Cybercriminals provide various services, build partnerships and rent services but in fact they aren‘t legal. The number of spam emails is still very high and they usually come through botnets. According to TrendLabs spam is overwhelming and it accounts about 97 percent all the emails circulating on the Internet.
In a given survey of 2010 Consumer there is general opinion that ISPs and ESPs should bear most of the responsibility of stopping spam, computer viruses, fraudulent emails, and spyware.
Trend Micro chief technologist Dave Rand says that ISPs can help in protecting user‘s data from spam and botnets. For example, they can block email on port 25 because botnets use port 25 when sending spam or junk files.
ISPs also can be useful in monitoring their own network activity and can identify particular IP host addresses at any given time. In this way they know what traffic traverses their network and has an ability to behold information. It is in ISPs power to block port 25 and to identify compromised customer.
