Recently detected fake YouTube pages are a common feature of the KOOBFACE bot. By using these rogue YouTube sites user is forced to install the “codec” which is needed for playing the video which is supposedly from a “hidden camera“.
The fictitious YouTube pages also include KOOBFACE bot’s response which is provided by Dancho Danchev . A short JavaScript code was detected a few days ago. This code gives a possibility to monitor these fake page hits. The code masquerades under a lot of tags in a very bottom of the page.
According to TrendLabs the tracking code uses a hit counter Web service. The KOOBFACE gang started to use this tracking method beginning July 28, 2010. The fake YouTube pages were visited 126,717 times. This number shows how many times the rogue page was visited; however, there is no actual data on how many users actually ran the KOOBFACE loader.
