Malware leading to premium phone number
By Bryan on January 13, 2010 | Phishing, alarmnotificator.exe, phishing, 1 (900) 255-73-73, premium number fraud
Creators of computer parasites seem to have employed old tricks to lure people into new kind of scam. Infections known as dialers were popular when dial-up connection was a usual thing. Back then, setting up a malware to call premium rate numbers was a beneficial deal. Today’s scammers chose a different tactic: tricking people into calling the numbers voluntarily.
Alarmnotificator.exe is the first of this type of scams. It displays the following alert:
You have some problems with your computer?
Our technical service can easily and fast help you with your problems.
Just call us by phone:
1 (900) 255-73-73 (available for US only)*
*$1.99 per min.

The notification may look like it was loaded by Windows Operating System. The nature of this hoax is clear as it targets your money. Alarmnotificator.exe seems to be bundled to a rogue security program to intimidate people into thinking their computers are badly infected.
