VirusTotal.com is a well known and reputable free virus and malware online scan service. It is not surprising attackers have chose to use its good name for their malicious intentions. The malware authors registered virus-total.in. This is an opposite to the legitimate site which is at virustotal.com with no dashes in the title. New malware arrives in form of numerous clones

A new type of rogue security tools arrived a few weeks ago. It is more convincing than other fake programs because it adjusts itself to the operating system found on victim’s computer.The malware checks Windows version on the compromised machine and then loads the interface accommodated to the Windows. This way the infection makes an image of reputable software. The other trick is played by the trojan which delivers the scam. Read more.

PandaLabs, the anti-malware lab of Panda Security have announced in their annual report that they have identified 25 million new malware threats during 2009. The number comes even more shocking having in mind that the total amount of malware strains detected in the previous 20 years altogether was 'only' 15 million.
