A new type of rogue security tools arrived a few weeks ago. It is more convincing than other fake programs because it adjusts itself to the operating system found on victim’s computer.
The malware checks Windows version on the compromised machine and then loads the interface accommodated to the Windows. This way the infection makes an image of reputable software. The other trick is played by the trojan which delivers the scam. It loads a counterfeit Windows Update alert which invites installing a supposedly reputable security tool. Many people fall for this and download the infection voluntarily. Use decent anti-spyware and anti-virus to prevent fake pop-ups and other kinds of malicious apps.
If the infection finds Windows Vista on victim’s computer, it appears as one of the following programs:
Antivirus Vista 2010
Vista Antispyware 2010
Vista Antivirus PRO
Vista Guardian
Vista Guardian 2010
Vista Internet Security
Vista Internet Security 2010
Other names are used for PCs running Windows XP:
Antivirus XP 2010
XP Antispyware 2010
XP Antivirus PRO
XP Antivirus PRO 2010
XP Guardian
XP Guardian 2010
XP Internet Security
XP Internet Security 2010
The infections uses the following aliases for machines with Windows 7.
Antivirus Win7 2010
Win7 Antispyware 2010
Win7 Antivirus PRO
Win7 Antivirus PRO 2010
Win7 Guardian 2010
Win7 Internet Security
Win7 Internet Security 2010
None of the above mentioned applications should be taken as real security tools. They are malicious and dangerous. They disable legitimate spyware removers and this way they leave the compromised computer open for further attacks. They also redirect web browser to deceptive websites that sell malware. The infection like that can be prevented if reputable security programs are installed on a PC.
