TrendLabs reports that a group of hackers announced about the compromised data of an underground credit card company. On 23 of July information was released stating a server of an online credit card processor company was breached.
At first it was not known how much the data is discredited. However, it seems like the damage done is quite big.
The report of leaked data includes employee emails and recorded phone calls. A particular recorded conversation discussed the various ways of defrauding major credit card companies. Another payment service – Fethard – was discussed at the recorded phone call. Fethard allows doing under assumed name transfer which is a perfect background for money laundering and other cybercriminal activities.
The compromised credit card company that functions as Fethard’s mother company is infamous for processing payments for FakeAV, pharmaceuticals on spam sites, pornography, and cheap MP3s. It is noted that the main office of the company is in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. However, the actual work is done in Russia and Latvia. The company has legitimate customers in Russia as well. It is sad that the incident puts the personal data of legitimate customers and of many ordinary Russians at risk.
