In March, RSA Company said they have been hacked and suffered a breach and data loss following an "extremely sophisticated cyber attack."
Recently, an email was found which says “I forward this file to you for review. Please open and view it“. Just few words letter with an attachment called 2011 Recruitment plan.xls, and 2011 Recruitment Plan in the subject line may be considered as a cause of breached RSA.
F-Secure researcher, Timo Hirvonen, have discovered that an email was uploaded. As it turned out, with a "From" email address hackers wanted to make you to believe that it comes from the web master of recruiting website Beyond.com.
The attachment contained a Flash object that was executed by Excel and took advantage of a flaw to install the Poison Ivy backdoor on the user‘s computer. F-Secure stated: "The attack email does not look too complicated. In fact, it's very simple. However, the exploit inside Excel was a zero-day at the time and RSA could not have protected against it by patching their systems."
