The U.S. and South Korean Sites Attacked from U.K.
By Bryan on July 15, 2009 | Computer Security, ddos attacks
The recent DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attacks performed on some South Korean and American websites appear to have been launched from a server located in the UK. Such conclusion had been made by Bkis, a Vietnamese network security company working on the case. The research had indicated that the attack had affected 167 thousand computers in 74 countries all over the world.
It had all started on the 4th of July weekend, the online abuse had been taken off from eight servers in total, all controlled fro one master server. Two of them have been already reported to be overtaken by Bkis.
The main target of the attack were the commercial and governmental websites in the United States and South Korea. Most of them had suffered some disruptions as a result of the outside interference. However, the American researches could not find any prove of change or removal of any data in the affected computers, although the code of the virus had been set on doing so.
