Trojan Uses HijackThis Toolbar for Spreading Malware
By Bryan on May 10, 2010 | Computer Security, TrendLab, malware, HijackThis, Trend Micro, trojan
TrendLabs engineers recently found a malware named as TROJ_DROPPER.QLC which uses HijackThis tool.
HijackThis is a tool which is offered by Trend Micro for free. This program helps users to evaluate their systems for possible risks. It also unites few other applications that can help to remove malware from infected computers manually.
So, fake properties of HijackThis toolbar may confuse users into executing the trojan. Trojan then spreads out another malware named as TROJ_UNDEF.QI . This one allows user's system to end up being redirected by malicious program.
However, Trend Micro product users need not worry, because the researchers are doing everything they can to prevent and protect users from these bogus systems.
