The Stalkers application is another Twitter phishing scam which was recently noticed by security researchers. The message that is used reads:
Twitter finally released an app that tracks your "Stalkers" get it here [LINK]
The function of this phising scam is to track people who are "stalking your Twitter". This fake program is promoted via messages linking to the application and it does nothing but to steal passwords and usernames of Twitter users.
At the first sight it may look that the application is from legitimate Twitter page. However, if you look close to URL you may see that the page is malicious and fraudulent. The scam is designed to get into victims’ accounts and get their passwords and abuse them immediately.
Victims of such scams may have bigger problems if they use the same password to their bank accounts or webmail sites.
Do not trust any link you get on your Twitter account or email. You need to be vigilant and make sure you are clicking on a legitimate link that will not cause you any security problems. Moreover, you should create a strong password which makes hackers hard work to breach it.
