A new Twitter worm spreads through shortened Google’s URL and forces users to install a security shield program that is definitely not a legitimate one. It only covers malware that worm tries to spread.
The rogue Twitter link masquerades under shortened Google’s link and does not present itself as malware. It offers users to set up a security shield program to your computer that presents security issues at victim’s computer.
With the establishment of Twitter URL shortening became more frequent. It depends on length limitation for posts on Twitter since the shortened URLs make it easier to tweet.
Goog.gl is one of the most popular URLs shortening services that include bit.ly, TinyURL. What is more, most shortened URLs offer statistics that is useful for the user to learn about the links popularity on the Internet.
Twitter worm that uses Goog.gl is designed to gain Google’s services for malicious intentions. Twitter worm acts similar to email worms, such as; it compromises users’ accounts and then spreads tweets with infected Goog.gl. If you think your account is compromised with the worm you need to change your Twitter account password immediately. You may update your security software as well.
