Koobface Worm Attacks via Twitter

Koobface worm was infamous for spreading via MySpace and Facebook networks; now Twitter users can experience the problem too. Although the rates of infections are not known yet, Twitter has already issued official warning . This is a sign that Koobface case is quite serious. Here’s how Twitter service reported the situation:

Some users’ PCs have been infected with a variant of the Koobface malware. This malware sends bogus tweets when the user logs into Twitter.

We are currently suspending all accounts that we detect sending such bogus tweets. If we suspend your account, we will send you an email notifying you of the suspension. This email also includes tips for removing the malware from your PC.


Twitter variant of Koobface, posts a status update when user logs into his or hers account using an infected PC. The line usually offers checking out a video or some actual information while the link leads to one of several fraudulent websites. The websites then offer downloading media codec which is (as you may already have figured it out) the same Koobface worm.

According to Sophos reports, “My home video :)” and “michaeljackson' testament on youtube” are common messages posted by the Koobface worm.
